Moms On a Mission in Sullivan: Fellowship with a
Purpose
– A group of Christian moms who meet
for fellowship while also striving to grow spiritu
ally and serve our community. A typical meeting
includes breakfast, devotion and discussion, fol
lowed by an activity or service project.
Childcare is provided by church volunteers.
There is a classroom for 2+ year olds, which
includes a snack and a Christian lesson. We also
offer a nursery for 0-2 year olds.
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Fridays
of the month from 9:00-11:00am at the First
United Methodist Church in Sullivan. No meeting
if there is no school that day.

Open Mic
Allenville Community Building will host an
open mic the last Friday of each month for coun
try music from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Writers Competition
Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse
White announced that entry forms are available
for the 13th annual Illinois Emerging Writers
Competition Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award.
“We created the Illinois Emerging Writers
Competition to promote creative writing and pro
vide an outlet for talented writers,” White said.
“Great poems have the ability to enrich and
enhance our lives, and I am looking forward to
celebrating talented poets with this year’s compe
tition.”
The competition is named in honor of the late
Pulitzer Prize-winning Illinois Poet Laureate
Gwendolyn Brooks, and is co-sponsored by
the Illinois Center for the Book and Kevin Stein,
who succeeded Brooks as Illinois Poet Laureate.
The competition is open to Illinois residents
age 18 and over. Entries must be postmarked by
June 30, 2017. Cash prizes will be awarded for
first ($500), second ($300) and third place ($100).
Winning poems will be submitted for possible
publication in the “Ninth Letter,” “RHINO” and
“Quiddity” journals and “Poetic License Press”
publications. Winners will read their poems at a
ceremony later this year at the Illinois State
Library in Springfield.

Rabies Clinic
The Lovington annual rabies clinic, Sponsored
by Graham Veterinary Clinic , will be held at the
Lovington Fire Department on Saturday, May 6,
from noon until 2 p.m. For questions and pricing

Music Trivia Night
The Okaw Valley Athletic Boosters will host a
Music Trivia Night at Tailwinds Steakhouse in
Findlay from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30.p.m. on Saturd
May 6. Doors open at 7:30pm.
The event includes not only the trivia comp
tion but also a 50/50 raffle, lottery tree, sil
auction, cash bar, and complimentary taco bar
all players.

Upcoming
The Vineyard Church is sponsoring a Father’s
Day vehicle show until 1 p.m. Sunday, June 18.
Arrival time is 7:30-8:30 a.m. with show time
from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. rain or shine.
Cash prizes will be included in the fun with
those registering prior to May 19, eligible for double
the chance to win.
Entry fee includes one T-shirt, open paid lunch
and a ticket to win cash. Those registering early
receive two tickets for the cash prizes.

The Lovington Fireworks Committee will add
lots of sparkle to the Community Club’s annual fish
fry.
Hunter Kamm, who wowed onlookers with his
fireworks display last summer, suggested the two
groups join forces for a special evening of food,
entertainment and fireworks Friday, June 16. The
fish fry starts at 4:30 p.m., offering food and enter
tainment in Tom Conn Park until 7 p.m.
The entertainment will continue at the field
north of Lovington Grade School until the sparks
start flying after sundown.
Operation Secret Santa is getting underway for
fundraising for 2017.
The annual fundraiser will be July 15 at the Toy
Bar in Sullivan starting with the annual Jeepin’ For
Jessie Jeep Run with the theme Christmas Vacation.
Following the jeep run, Secret Santa will host the
annual silent auction followed by a live auction.
Times will be posted at a later date. Raffle tickets for
a half of a hog are available at the Toy Bar for a
drawing the day of the event.
The Wounded Warrior Project will benefit from
the Sullivan Sons of the American Legion golf out
ing Saturday, June 17.
Sign up is 8 a.m. at Timberlake Golf Course with
the shotgun start at 9 a.m. It is a four person 18 hold
scramble with lunch provided.

50 Plus Gatherings
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each
month from 6:30-8pm. If you are age 50 or older,
please join us! We are a generation with much to
offer in perspective, experience, skills and wis
dom as we extend God’s love within and beyond
the church walls. Vineyard Church, 1805 S.
Hamilton in Sullivan.
Grief Support Group
A weekly grief support group meets 5:45 p.m.
– 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays through May 29.
Meetings are held at the First United Methodist
Church at 216 W. Jefferson in Sullivan. Dinner
and child care are provided at 5:15 p.m.

Free Play Group
Bright Start is a free play group program that
is funded through the Illinois State Board of
Education for children birth thru age three who
reside in Moultrie County. Play groups meet on
Thursday mornings from 9 to 10:30 at the Early
Intervention building at 203 S. Graham, Sullivan.
